Reasons To Love The Military Life
Military life may not be for everyone, and that’s ok. There are many reasons why some people do not understand how we can love the military lifestyle - it is challenging, stressful, and sometimes exhausting. But there are so many reasons to love military life. After all, it can be exhilarating, rewarding, and inspiring. Let’s take a look at some things to love about this lifestyle!
It’s An Adventure | The military does send us on big adventures. If you embrace the long-distance and foreign moves, you can expect adventure and excitement in your life. Plus, you will have an existing welcoming group who have all ‘been there’, to help you settle in.
Double Takes! | You get to get dressed up! Dressing for duty, dress uniforms, and then there are the military balls! Uniforms are sharp, with lots of opportunities to turn heads.
Choose Your Family | At each duty station, you get to create your family. Your fellow service members and spouse become close friends. Your neighbors become new friends. As your time in service grows, so does your family… many of these people will stay lifelong friends.
Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder | You get so many ‘first kisses’ in the military. Isn’t it great knowing that whoever you left behind is eagerly awaiting your return? Homecomings are sweet, and those ‘first’ kisses happen each time you come back.
Patience Is A Virtue | With long work schedules, and delayed orders and vacations, patience is a trait you will cultivate in the military. A positive, developing patience will serve you well with other life events.
Flexin’ | Along with patience, you will learn to be flexible in the military. Plans change quickly, and dealing with that makes you more resilient and tough. Military life will definitely sharpen your life skills.
Savor Moments | Being in the military makes you appreciate the time you have with your family and friends when you are home. You learn not to take it for granted.
Military Strong | You will not realize just how strong you are until you join the military. With time in basic training and many deployments, military life builds strength in both mind and body. You will come to love it.
Pride | Remind yourself every day as you put on your uniform that you are doing a job that requires strength, dedication, knowledge, focus, and talent. What better feeling is there?
Resilience | Military life is challenging. When you take your oath, you are putting your country above self. During your military experience, you will discover what you are made of, and it will spill over into all facets of your life. That’s a very good thing.
Homecoming | Goodbyes are tough, but hellos are sweet. A big reason to love military life is knowing that your family is waiting with open arms each time you return from deployment. Also, if you have a pet, what’s more adorable than that initial welcome you get from them?
Early Retirement | If you joined the military right out of school, you have set yourself up for retirement in your forties. Or, freedom to start a second career in something that you are passionate about with the safety net of your retirement income. Medical benefits too!
Discounts | Who doesn’t love a discount? There are tons of military discounts out there, all you have to do is ask. Baggage fees, restaurants, museums, attractions, and more offer great discounts.
Benefits | Your service comes with benefits. Healthcare and tuition assistance, and numerous federal and state benefits. It’s a big reason to love military life.
