PCS the Easy Way

PCS can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be! There are some simple steps you can take to make the process easier on your entire family.

One of the first steps is planning. Planning can put your mind at ease and help you know what to expect. Start researching schools in your new location as soon as possible.

It is also important to start home searching as soon as possible. Choosing an experienced, trusted real estate agent who understands the needs of military families is an essential part of a stress-free PCS move.

Break up the move into smaller tasks. Set smaller daily goals as part of the larger moving goal to help the move seem less overwhelming.

Pack important documents by yourself. You could arrive at your new location before your items do. Packing PCS survival kits with favorite toys, important documents and toiletries can help make even stressful circumstances easier.

Don't move things you don't need. You can sell or donate anything you no longer need or use to save you the trouble of having to move something you won't even use.

Document all of your belongings. This will help you keep track of everything and let you know exactly what you're missing if something ends up getting lost in the transition.

Take all medications with you. You don't want to get to the new home without essential items.

Do your best to keep a sense of humor and good attitude about all of it. Your family will look to you and follow your lead.
