The Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is one of the U.S. Navy’s state-of-the-art medical centers. The facility includes nine branch clinics located throughout the Hampton Roads, Virginia region. It also includes premier training and research programs for new doctors, hospital corpsmen, and nurses. The medical center is near the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, also located in Portsmouth. Portsmouth is centrally located to Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk, Virginia.
The historic town of Portsmouth is located along the Elizabeth River, directly across from the city of Norfolk in Southeastern Virginia. Portsmouth was founded in 1750 and was a shipbuilding center of the period. Today, the town has many quaint neighborhoods, as well as some high-rise condominium buildings along the waterfront.
